Applications for the City of Ekurhuleni Community Bursary close 3 April 2026

The City of Ekurhuleni invites applications from academically deserving and committed students who plan to study full-time undergraduate qualifications in 2026 through its Community Bursary Programme. The programme supports youth development and helps build skills aligned with municipal service delivery needs.

Closing date: 3 April 2026
Location requirement: Must reside within the City of Ekurhuleni (proof required)

Fields of study covered

Applicants may apply in the following fields (as listed by the City):

  • Civil, Electrical & Mechanical Engineering
  • Town and Regional Planning / Architecture
  • Environmental Science
  • Finance, Accounting & Auditing
  • Information Technology / Computer Science / Data Science
  • Health Sciences

Note: Only qualifications offered by accredited South African universities, universities of technology, and TVET colleges will be considered.

Minimum requirements

To be considered, you must generally:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Reside within the City of Ekurhuleni (proof required)
  • Be 18–35 years old
  • Have completed Grade 12
  • Have an acceptance letter or proof of registration for 2026
  • Provide proof of total household income

Documents required (certified copies not older than 3 months)

Prepare the following:

  • South African ID
  • Matric certificate
  • Acceptance letter / proof of registration (accredited institution)
  • Proof of residence in Ekurhuleni (not older than 3 months)
  • Motivation letter (maximum 1 page)
  • Proof of household income (salary slips, stamped bank statement + affidavit)
  • Social grant proof (if applicable)

The bursary is renewable annually, subject to academic performance/results.

What the bursary may cover (subject to available funds)

  • Registration and tuition fees
  • Prescribed textbooks
  • Accommodation and meals (where applicable)

Conditions

  • Successful applicants must sign a bursary contract with the City.
  • Students must maintain a minimum yearly average of 70% to continue receiving funding.
  • Recipients may be required to complete vacation work in municipal departments.
  • The City may withdraw the bursary due to poor performance or misconduct.
  • Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
  • TVET College students are encouraged to apply.
