The Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT SETA) is inviting qualified professionals to apply for the position of Independent Chairperson of the Risk Management Committee (RMC).
This important leadership role provides strategic oversight of risk management processes and governance systems within the organisation.
MICT SETA is a Schedule 3A public entity established by the Minister of Higher Education and Training and operates under the Skills Development Act 97 of 1998, the Public Finance Management Act 1 of 1999, National Treasury Regulations and other governance frameworks.
The appointment will run until 31 March 2030.
Position
Independent Chairperson – Risk Management Committee
Key Responsibilities
The Chairperson will provide strategic leadership and oversight to ensure effective risk governance within MICT SETA.
Responsibilities include:
• Leading and facilitating Risk Management Committee meetings
• Providing direction on risk management strategies and policies
• Assessing organisational risk appetite and recommending approvals to the Accounting Authority
• Monitoring strategic, operational, and fraud-related risks
• Reviewing fraud prevention and whistleblowing frameworks
• Evaluating the effectiveness of risk management systems
• Ensuring alignment between the Risk Management Committee and the Audit & Risk Committee
• Monitoring recommendations from assurance providers
• Ensuring compliance with relevant governance frameworks and legislation
• Strengthening internal control systems and safeguarding organisational assets
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have:
• A Postgraduate qualification (NQF Level 8) in:
- Commerce
- Accounting
- Auditing
- Risk Management
- Or a related field
• Membership in good standing with the Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA)
Experience Requirements
Candidates must have:
• At least 3 years experience serving as Chairperson or member of a Risk Management Committee or Audit & Risk Committee in the public sector
• 10 years managerial experience in risk management, auditing, ethics management or related fields
• Strong understanding of public sector governance frameworks and legislation
Knowledge of the SETA environment will be advantageous.
