JOB OVERVIEW
The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements is inviting applications for a senior leadership position of Deputy Director General: Human Settlements Planning based in Johannesburg.
This high-level government role offers an opportunity to lead strategic planning, infrastructure development, and housing delivery programmes across Gauteng.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements is responsible for developing sustainable human settlements and improving housing delivery across the province.
The department plays a key role in infrastructure development, spatial planning, and addressing housing challenges in South Africa.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead research and policy development in the human settlements sector
- Provide strategic direction for short- and long-term planning
- Oversee infrastructure asset management plans
- Manage housing subsidy programmes and beneficiary administration
- Drive informal settlement development and land release programmes
- Ensure compliance with national policies and regulations
- Manage and lead the business unit effectively

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Matric (Grade 12)
- NQF Level 8 qualification in:
- Town Planning
- Urban & Regional Planning
- Architecture
- Civil Engineering
- Public Management or related
- Master’s Degree (Advantage)
- Minimum 8 years Senior Management experience
- Experience in infrastructure or housing delivery
- Valid driver’s license
- SMS Pre-Entry Certificate (required before appointment)

- Construction Industry Development Board Act (2000)
- Infrastructure procurement & delivery management
- National Spatial Development Perspective (NSDP)
- Housing and human settlements policies
- Property registration processes
- Town & Regional planning systems
