Programme Overview

What the Bursary Covers
The bursary provides full or partial funding (capped) for:
- Tuition fees

- Stationery and books
- Personal computer
- Transport costs
Software Development Engineer (SDE) Opportunity
SDEs at Amazon:
- Build and design large-scale software systems
- Work on global, customer-focused projects
- Solve complex challenges in distributed systems, AI, automation, and security
- Own end-to-end software development lifecycle
Internship Experience
During the internship, students will:
- Write real production code
- Work alongside experienced engineers
- Complete impactful technical projects
- Be assessed for a full-time permanent SDE role
Who Can Apply (Eligibility Criteria)
Applicants must:
- Be studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering
- Specialisations in AI or Machine Learning are accepted
- Be in final year of a 3-year degree OR 3rd year of a 4-year degree (2026)
- Plan to complete Honours (NQF Level 8) by 2027
- Be a South African citizen
- Study at a South African university only
- Have a minimum 65% academic average
- Show strong interest in software development and coding
Obligations
If selected, you must:
- Complete a paid Amazon internship during university vacation
- Participate in training and development programmes
- Be willing to accept a full-time role after graduation (if offered)
- Work for Amazon for a period equivalent to bursary years funded
