The Gauteng Department of Health is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Director: Accounts Payable within the Financial Accounting Directorate.

JOB PURPOSE

To manage accounts payable processes, ensure accurate financial transactions, oversee supplier payments, and lead a team responsible for financial administration within the department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial & Accounts Payable Management

  • Process and manage supplier invoices using IMS (Invoice Management System)
  • Handle payments (bursaries, legal, petty cash, Medsas, board members)
  • Perform reconciliation of TOP 200 suppliers
  • Manage BAS (Basic Accounting System) transactions and payment runs
  • Investigate and correct invoice discrepancies

Procurement & Supplier Management

  • Liaise with suppliers and institutions
  • Manage invoices, statements, and reconciliations
  • Assist with Supplier Portal and Central Supplier Database (CSD)
  • Resolve payment and invoice queries

Team Leadership & Management

  • Supervise and manage staff performance
  • Conduct training and development
  • Monitor performance reviews and contracts
  • Ensure team meets deadlines and KPIs

Reporting & Compliance

  • Update reconciliation dashboards
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)
    • Treasury Regulations
  • Participate in meetings and reporting

REQUIREMENTS

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • NQF Level 7 Degree in:
    • Financial Accounting
    • Financial Management
    • Or related qualification
  • 3–5 years experience in Public Finance
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory

Must Have Knowledge:

  • BAS (Basic Accounting System)
  • SAP
  • IMS (Invoice Management System)
  • Supplier Portal
  • PFMA (Public Finance Management Act)
  • Valid driver’s license
