The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) is inviting qualified legal professionals to apply for the CGE Legal Officer Vacancy 2026 based in Kimberley, Northern Cape.

The successful candidate will join the Legal Unit and will be responsible for handling complaints, conducting litigation, and supporting the CGE’s mandate to promote gender equality in South Africa.

Salary Package: R527,298 per annum (All-Inclusive)

Key Responsibilities

The CGE Legal Officer Vacancy 2026 includes the following responsibilities:

  • Handling and investigating complaints from members of the public
  • Referring cases to the Equality Court
  • Litigating on behalf of complainants
  • Monitoring the operations and functioning of courts in the province
  • Conducting mediation to resolve disputes
  • Drafting gender-perspective inputs for legislation and regulations
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Building relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensuring implementation of the Annual Performance Plan
  • Liaising with courts on matters referred by CGE
  • Identifying systemic issues related to complaints and litigation

Minimum Requirements

Applicants for the CGE Legal Officer Vacancy 2026 must have:

  • Matric certificate
  • LLB or B.Proc degree (LL.M is advantageous)
  • Admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa
  • Minimum 3 years post-admission experience
  • Knowledge of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa
  • Experience in Human Rights law and litigation
  • Knowledge of the operations of Equality Courts
  • Strong understanding of gender issues

Required Competencies

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of constitutional litigation and court processes
  • Experience in mediation and conciliation processes
  • Legal research experience
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work independently in complaints handling
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of at least one African language

Being an accredited mediator will be an added advantage.
