The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellowship 2026 is now open for applications. This programme supports exceptional Grade 12 learners who want to study at top universities in South Africa and develop as future entrepreneurs and leaders.

Programme Overview

The Fellowship aims to develop young South Africans who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and entrepreneurial thinking.

Successful candidates will receive support to study at leading universities while being developed into future business leaders.

Eligible Fields of Study

Applicants must intend to study towards a degree in one of the following:

  • Commerce
  • Science (excluding Medicine, Veterinary Science, and Dentistry)
  • Engineering
  • Law
  • Humanities
  • Arts

Applicants must plan to study at one of the following institutions:

  • University of the Witwatersrand
  • University of Johannesburg
  • University of Cape Town
  • Nelson Mandela University
  • Rhodes University
  • University of the Western Cape
  • Stellenbosch University
  • University of Pretoria
  • University of the Free State
  • University of KwaZulu-Natal
  • TSIBA Business School

Minimum Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be a current Grade 12 learner (2026 applicants)
  • Must not be older than 21 years in the application year
  • Must demonstrate entrepreneurial flair and passion
  • Must show belief in the future of South Africa
  • Must achieve:
    • 60% in Pure Mathematics OR 80% in Mathematical Literacy (Grade 11 results)
    • Minimum 70% average in Grade 11 results (excluding Life Orientation)
